What is Trauma?
Life threatening experiences may be traumatic memories. For example, being a victim or a witness of an accident, torture, war, natural disaster etc. Although there is no threat to be alive physically, emotional adverse experiences may also be very rough. For example, being neglected, abandoned, cheated, be subjected to emotional, physical or sexual abuse etc. Even worse, if we are being subjected to these adverse experiences by a loved one like parents, partner, friend, a family member, this may become more painful. Likewise, if it is unexpected the experience can be more intensive and hurtful for us when the exposure started in our early ages and repeated.
From a perspective, we may be broken in a relationship and heal in another.
And this may be a therapeutical relationship.
